Our stories
Gold Fields Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young people and building stronger communities through its community youth training on employment initiative. More than 570 youth from the host communities of the Tarkwa mine benefitted from the programme, which equipped participants with practical skills and workplace knowledge to prepare them for future employment opportunities.
The training, organised by the Community Relations and People (HR) departments in collaboration with the Community Employment Committee, covered essential topics such as CV preparation, job applications, interview etiquette, workplace onboarding and awareness of alcohol and drug abuse. These sessions were designed to boost participants' confidence, enhance their employability and provide a realistic understanding of workplace expectations.
Encouragingly, 25% of participants were female, reflecting growing inclusivity and the increasing participation of young women in employment development initiatives. Beyond technical preparation, the programme emphasised responsible workplace conduct and the importance of security screening as part of employment requirements.
Speaking on the initiative, Solomon Ocansey, Senior Advisor, Community Relations at Gold Fields Ghana Limited emphasised the initiative's significance.
"Our investment in youth training is an investment in the future of our host communities. By equipping young people with the skills, confidence and awareness they need to succeed, we are helping to create opportunities that drive sustainable development and shared prosperity."
The Community Relations team will continue to monitor the impact of the initiative as the Community Employment Procedure is rolled out, ensuring measurable outcomes and lasting benefits for the communities surrounding the Tarkwa mine.
