Host communities

The Tarkwa mine is located within the Tarkwa township in the
south-western part of Ghana, about 317 kilometres west of the capital, Accra. The Damang mine is located about 30 kilometres north-east of Tarkwa. The Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley municipalities host the Tarkwa and Damang mines, respectively.


The Tarkwa mine impacts 11 communities, all of which are under the jurisdiction of the Apinto Stool of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area in the Western Region. They include:
