Nana Asare Brempong II, the newly installed chief of the Apinto divisional area, recently paid a courtesy call on the senior leadership team of the Tarkwa mine.
Accompanied by elders of the divisional council, the purpose of his visit was to engage with the leadership team and to gain deeper insight into Gold Fields' operations.
The delegation was warmly received by Elliot Twum, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Gold Fields, who congratulated the chief on his installation. Mr. Twum shared the resilient journey of the Tarkwa mine, highlighting operational milestones achieved over Gold Fields' 33 years in Ghana. He also emphasised the company's responsible mining practices and its contributions to national development.
The traditional leaders were also briefed on Gold Fields' community relations strategy, including the governance, funding mechanisms and activities of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation. Notably, they learned about the Foundation's investment of over US$109 million in socio-economic development, livelihood enhancement programmes and legacy infrastructure projects in the host communities.
Following the presentation and interactions, the delegation was taken to the viewpoint, where they observed the pit and other key operational areas.
Nana Asare Brempong II expressed appreciation for the warm reception and thanked Gold Fields for the significant support extended to the host communities. He noted that as key community stakeholders, the divisional council would continue to collaborate with and support the Tarkwa mine to ensure shared and sustainable value.
