The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation recently handed over a 40,000-litre capacity small-town water supply system to the Mehuntem community, ensuring safe and reliable access to potable water for households, school and public institutions.
The 40,000-litre storage tank, which is expected to benefit more than 1,000 community members, will address long-standing water challenges, reduce the risk of disease transmission, improve hygiene practices and enhance overall community wellbeing.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Abdel-Razak Yakubu, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative.
"Access to clean water is fundamental to health, dignity and sustainable development. By investing in this facility, we are not only meeting an immediate need but also laying the foundation for healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities in our operational areas," said Mr Yakubu.
Funded at a cost of over US$33,800, the project was delivered in partnership with the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipal Assembly and the Mehuntem Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) Committee, ensuring sustainability and community ownership.
