The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has officially commissioned the construction of the Samahu–Pepesa road, a major infrastructure investment valued at GHS63million. The 14.21km road will connect host communities including Samahu, Abekoase, Tebe, Huniso and Pepesa, addressing long-standing transportation challenges in the area.
At the sod-cutting ceremony, Robert Siaw, Lead Specialist, Community Relations, emphasised the Foundation's commitment to infrastructure development, noting that over US$71.4 million has been invested. He cited key projects such as the 33km Tarkwa-Damang road, Nana Angu bypass, and the Awudua and Brahabobom roads as examples of initiatives that have improved livelihoods and delivered economic benefits.
The Gyaasehene of the Apinto Divisional Council, Nana Dr. Adarkwa Bediako III, hailed the project as a long-awaited solution to poor road conditions that have hindered development. He commended Gold Fields for its enduring impact and reaffirmed the community's solidarity with the company.
Hon. Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni Valley, and Dr. Matthew Kofi Ayeh, Municipal Chief Executive, expressed deep gratitude to the Foundation, describing the initiative as a transformative intervention that will reduce travel time, improve road safety and stimulate local economic growth. Both pledged their full support for the project's successful completion.
The road is being constructed by Classic Cristken Limited, with consultancy support from De-Hawk Ventures Limited, two Ghanaian-owned firms employing an entirely local workforce—underscoring Gold Fields' commitment to indigenous business development and local content promotion.
Once completed, the Samahu–Pepesa road is expected to significantly enhance mobility, safety and socio-economic activity across the region.
