In a landmark move to strengthen healthcare delivery in the host communities of the Tarkwa and Damang mines, the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, in partnership with Project C.U.R.E., has donated essential medical equipment and supplies to public health facilities across the Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley municipalities.
The donation, exceeding US$793,000 in value, includes critical items such as ICU beds, incubators, surgical instruments, neonatal care equipment, nebulisers, sphygmomanometers, centrifuges and otoscopes. These resources are expected to significantly enhance the capacity of local health facilities to serve host community members more effectively.
The initiative follows a comprehensive needs assessment conducted in 2024, which enabled Project C.U.R.E. to assemble a customised consignment tailored to the specific requirements of the beneficiary facilities. To ensure the success of the partnership, the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation covered all related expenses, including the baseline needs assessment, shipping, customs processing and transportation — at a cost of over US$95,000.
This strategic intervention is designed to ease pressure on frontline health workers, strengthen primary healthcare delivery and improve referral pathways to secondary facilities such as the Apinto Government Hospital.
